MAKE HISTORICAL SOCIETY PLANS IN GILMANTON - The Citizen 1966
Initial steps have been taken toward the formation of a historical society in Gilmanton. Two meetings have been held with an average attendance of about 40 people and a great amount of real interest is apparent. At the second meeting, Mr. Lawrence Guild of Gilford was the speaker. He pointed out that Gilmanton is one of the most interesting places in the state from the standpoint of rich and fascinating history and he gave the group some encouragement and helpful information about the formation and projects of a society. About 52 people have signed as wanting to be part of it.
A committee has been appointed to set up a Constitution and By-Laws and to bring in a slate of suggested officers to be considered at the next meeting, June 30th at the Corner School, to which all residents are invited. The committee consists of Howard Osler, Chairman, Winston Barney and Mrs. Florence Chaffee of the Corners; Albert Olmstead, Edward Maher and Mrs. Barbara Dimock of the Iron Works; and Mrs. Hattie Kelley of Lower Gilmanton.
GILMANTON FORMS HISTORICAL SOCIETY, ELECTS OFFICERS - The Citizen 1967
At a recent meeting at the Academy, the Gilmanton Historical Society was organized and a constitution and by-laws were adopted. The nominating committee, headed by Howard Osler, brought in a slate of nominees for various offices and the following were elected: Harold B. Brinig, president; Mrs. Geraldine North, vice president; Mrs. Dorothy Sykes, secretary; Miss Jean Nelson, treasurer. The three directors are Harold Griffin, Edward Maher and Mrs. John Geddes.
On July 4th, the society entered a float in the annual Gilmanton parade and was awarded first prize. The scene was that of a group of ladies in real Colonial costumes engaged in weaving and spinning and another group about a tea table. Those taking part were Mrs. Margaret Barholemew, Mrs. Harold Brinig, Mrs. Winston Barney, Mrs. Howard Osler and the Misses Susan Barney and Catherine Blanchette. The costumes were from the treasures of Mrs. Bartholomew and Mrs. Gloria Munsey. Kenneth Nutter supplied the platform trailer and truck.
